The majority of foreign nationals who wish to stay in the Netherlands up to three months require a short-stay visa. This is also called a tourist visa (toeristenvisum) or a Schengen visa (Schengenvisum). One should generally request a tourist visa for a tourist stay or a stay with family, friends or partner in the Netherlands.
Visa requirement A foreign national from the EU, EEA or Switzerland is exempt from the visa requirement. For some nationalities outside the EU there is no visa requirement either. Full details can be found on the website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Ministerie van Buitenlandse Zaken).
