WHAT CAN BE INSURED
If you're living abroad and are coming to the Netherlands for a short period of time, you want to be well insured in case of an accident or sudden illness. The Global Visitor insurance offers you an appropriate solution, whether you're coming to the Netherlands for a family visit, holiday, a reunification of family/partner or for temporary work. You can also take out the Global Visitor for business relations or trainees from abroad who visit you temporarily. Bear in mind that you can be held liable for the medical costs of your guests if they have no insurance. Apart from that, an insurance for urgent medical costs and repatriation is a requirement for obtaining a Schengen visa (required for entering the Netherlands and other Schengen countries when coming from certain countries). For the application of a Schengen visa the Global Visitor insurance is sufficient . Duration of insurance The duration of the insurance depends on your age. - If you are younger than 70 years, you can close the insurance for a period of 12 months maximum.
- If you are between 70 and 79 years old, the maximum period of insurance is 6 months.
It's important that you close the insurance for the correct period of time as it is not possible to extend the insurance. After termination of the insurance, you can apply for a new insurance if necessary. Be aware that on the new inception date all the than existing ailments and complaints are excluded. This also means complaints you've received compensation for during the first insurance period. If you don't know for what period you'll need the insurance, we suggest you to take it rather too long than too short. Waiting for a residence permit If you're waiting for your residence permit, we advise you to close the insurance for an as long as possible period of time, for example a year. As from the date you receive the residence permit, you're obligated to close the so-called "basisverzekering", which is the regular Dutch health insurance. From that moment you can end your Global Visitor insurance. Hospitalized on the termination date of the insurance If, on the termination date, you are hospitalized, we will reimburse the costs of this admission, if covered, during 30 days after the expiration date of the insurance. This 'after-cover' does not apply for non-clinical costs. Cost price cover All medical expenses made by you and covered by the Global Visitor insurance will be fully reimbursed. There is no maximum reimbursement, so you will not be confronted with a bill you partially have to pay for yourself. Nevertheless certain specific costs will be reimbursed up to a maximum and you have an own risk. Summary of cover Exclusion of pre-existing ailments and complaints Please note that complaints and ailments that already existed on or prior to the inception date of the insurance are not insured and will not qualify for compensation. This does not only concern ailments and/or complaints which you are aware of but also ailments and/or complaints that already existed but were not known to you. Cover in Europe The Global Visitor insurance provides cover in Europe, including the Azores, the Canary Islands, Madeira, Algeria, Egypt, Israel, Palestine, Lebanon, Libya, Morocco, Syria, Tunisia and Turkey, but not in your home country (the country in which you were residing before going abroad and/or the country which nationality you have).
